In this session, participants will explore how to use the phased learning cycle to plan lessons that integrate technology and develop higher order thinking skills in our language learners. If we truly want to engage our learners in French, we need to move beyond the tyranny of the topic and support them in using French creatively, with technology and at a cognitively challenging level. At John Monash Science School, we use the phased learning cycle to plan for a constructivist learning model. We integrate activities that develop higher order thinking skills, collaboration and critique and all of this is done in a rich Google Apps for Education learning environment. Participants will leave this session with practical resources and lots of ideas to deepen their French curriculum from hexagonal thinking in grammar to YouTube note taking, creating living graphs and feedback/feedforward strategies. |
